Sometimes people ask me where Maureen gets her jackets from? I always ponder this. Do they mean it in a philosophical way? Maureen sometimes arrives in my mind completely uninvited, but if anyone out there has some toe-curling embarrassing situation they would like to see her in, just let me know. Perhaps you can recall some of your own dating/social disasters? I promise not to mention names, ha, ha. Go on, I need some ideas...
OK social/professional double whammy disaster circa 1981.
ReplyDeleteWorking briefly as an estate agent, went to a very genteel lady's home (could be Maureen?) to talk about her plans for moving & I took some property details along for her perusal. Sat down for cuppa; talked about her past homes & she passed me a nice hard-backed photo of a pretty thatched cottage. She was hovering beside me with the cup & saucer whilst I admired the photo I was holding, until I realised it was a coaster.
Anyway, I gave her some property details & started saying "If you don't like them you can just throw them away". My brain was befuddled due to my previous faux-pas & after I got to "throw" I think it thought I was saying "If you don't like them you can just tear them UP."
You can imagine what I actually said.
What did you actually say because I don't understand the other bit at all, ha, ha. I shall think about this over lunch...
ReplyDelete"If you don't like them you can just throw up".
ReplyDeleteAha, well an idea came to me during lunch and this fits perfectly. Maureen dining with an estate agent...
ReplyDeleteSorry I hope it didn't put you off your lunch.
ReplyDeleteLook forward to seeing this.
Many years ago when I lived in Italy a group of us were chatting in a bar. There was this very attractive girl with whom I was getting really well, and I noticed that she kept winking at me. Trying to make a joke, I said "Hey, have you got some kind of tic?" She said "Yes, I have actually."
ReplyDeleteDone!
ReplyDeleteTim: That's horribly funny. I shall certainly do that one too. It made me laugh out loud.
ReplyDeleteLaugh out loud? I thought you didn't have a sense of humour.
ReplyDeleteI can't have a sense of humour. I'm Scottish...sort of...
ReplyDeleteDoes laugh out loud mean lol? I'm very naive in such matters.
ReplyDeleteAnd if so, what does chortle mean, plees?
Isn't that Billy Connolly chap Scottish also?
